The Abuse of Time – October Spotlight

Years ago, I stepped away from a traditional career path to pursue psychological and spiritual growth. What I imagined would take a couple of years became a much longer journey—one that reshaped my career, my identity, and my understanding of strength. I completed the final laps as a single mother and later as a graduate student. Though unconventional, this path was deeply meaningful. Its value lives in the peace and resilience I now carry.

Yet such work often goes unrecognized. Too frequently, worth is measured by financial outcomes or job titles. There’s a difference between channeling one’s inner growth into a career—where it yields clients and income—and pursuing it for its own sake, regardless of financial return. To me, success is not defined solely by money, but by the depth of one’s humanity.

In a society grappling with widespread mental instability, it’s troubling how easily true psychological and spiritual labor—work that strengthens communities from within—is dismissed. When this path is disregarded, it’s not just time that’s wasted; it’s progress toward collective healing that’s diminished. Give Yourself the Gift of Perspective

Consider the time others have devoted to unseen but essential work—raising children, healing from hardship, deepening their inner lives. Instead of measuring progress by income or status alone, honor the patience, courage, and quiet discipline such journeys require. Refuse to waste the time of those who have walked further in ways you cannot yet see. Offer recognition. Share respect.
